This professional learning session will cover:
- Explicit teaching of text types
Provides a practical model for effectively teaching and scaffolding text types. Includes practical ideas for teaching of key language features: organisation, grammar and vocabulary.
- Teaching students how to use a common language to critique text
Using the 'Six Plus One Traits of Writing' framework to develop student-friendly assessment criteria, teachers explore practical activities that provide students with the knowledge and confidence to assess writing. Includes viewing a short clip from the classroom.
- Demonstrating a sample writing lesson
Outlines planning and modelling a writing lesson structure to use in the classroom. Includes time to examine and discuss relevant mentor texts and samples of student writing and ideas to catering for struggling writers.
